This study explores into as to how the urban forms have became a liability for people in which the pedestrians exists in a compromising situation with advent of motor car and even in contemporary cities there is an urgent need for specific strategies for design of pedestrian precincts and return of the ground space to pedestrians. The thesis does not posit for the reversal of the mechanization trends but only pleads for preservation of some exclusive precincts to preserve the romance, ambiance and tranquility; inherent in pedestrian precincts.
