Hausa Sign Language (maganar hannu or harshen bebaye in spoken Hausa) is the language of the Deaf community in Hausaland.
This booklet contains 60 Hausa Sign Language signs on commerce and counting. Each sign is presented together with its meaning in spoken Hausa.
Signs were collected during a workshop in August 2015 in Kano, Nigeria, in which hearing artists worked together with a group of Deaf people from the Kano Association of the Deaf under the direction of Constanze Halima Schmaling.
The book may be used by Deaf people as teaching and learning material in the adult literacy classes Yaki da Jahilci (war against ignorance/illiteracy) as well as by Hausa Sign Language learners.
